Inspired by the need for the youth of Africa to achieve University level education, the International Open University made a promise, and set a goal to provide scholarships for students who were unable to afford tuition. We feel honored to report that so far, we have been keeping that promise.
But we still need your help to reach our goal.
International Open University (IOU)
The International Open University (IOU) was established by Dr. Bilal Philips, who envisioned a higher-learning institution that offers intensive fully accredited online undergraduate and graduate programs. IOU aims to grant global access to quality undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level education programs for students at virtually no cost. Its mission is to transform the world situation through education.
IOU’s journey began in 2007 with the launch of free online Diploma courses in its Open Campus. In 2010, after just 3 years, the Bachelor of Arts (BA) program was launched. The University now has seven colleges offering accredited online degree programs: College of Education, College of Islamic Economics, College of Banking & Finance, College of Psychology, College of Islamic Studies, College of Business Administration, College of Information Technology, and the College of Arabic Language and Linguistics.
1 Million African Scholarship Project (1MAS)
The International Open University (IOU) endeavors to strengthen the capabilities of African youth through the provision of quality higher education. Earning a university degree helps disadvantaged students create a beneficial livelihood for themselves and in turn others, as well as empowers them adequately to work towards the eradication of poverty in their communities.
In 2017, IOU launched the African scholarship project with the aim of educating one million African students. Alhamdulillaah, in 4 years we have reached 16 countries and have offered scholarships to more than 3000 students. Read More.
We Aim To Donate Scholarships To 1 Million African Students!
By the mercy of Allah, and with your continued support, we work towards this goal of making it possible to provide students with not only education, but opportunities to become positive influencers and contributors to their society, and provide honest sustenance for themselves and their families. In 4 years, we have reached 16 countries and have offered scholarships to more than 3000 students.
This is where you come in.
Take a look at this picture.
Praying for the ease and mercy of Allah, and the good of Allah’s provision for us in this life is something that we are all encouraged to do. But there is another way, and easy action, that Allah guarantee’s us good returns both in this life and the next!
We can even be more successful than those we see making investments into startup companies early, and reaping incredible profits later.
Allah the Most Generous, said, “The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower.” (Surah al Baqarah 2:261)
When you sow even a small amount of charity, Allah will increase your investment in ways that are so bountiful you can’t even imagine, and won’t be able to measure!
Wouldn’t that make your life easier? So the truly successful are those who invest for the sake of Allah; who understand the benefit of investing in the lives of those in need.
There is still a great need for your support.
The 1MAS initiative is still in its early stages.
As of 2022, we’ve granted scholarships across Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leonne, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
We’ve also set up 25 Learning Centers in Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The operational cost for their upkeep is US$ 150,000 a year as of 2022.
We need 1,500 generous people to give only $100 each to cover this cost! per year.
